Thursday, 9th day at sea

Settled in beautifully.  Breathtaking conditions.  Breeze picked up yesterday afternoon and after 20 hours of unpleasant and slow motorsailing we shut down the engine and shook the last reef.  Fair winds back!

Now pointing straight for Azores, hope to arrive Sunday.  Need to go on 8-noon solo watch, so here are some pictures from yesterday.  Keep the comments coming, we read every single one.  Love to all, MJ.

  2. Looks like although u may have been a bit bored yesterday that everyone may have enjoyed a day “off” – prob a good day to get chores done too – were u able to fish at all during the calm ? So when u get to Spain what r u going to do- hang out and relax or come right back home? How does the boat get back? R u guys doing a round trip voyage – I forgot – since Donald trump announced his run for presidency the late night (not that I am ever awake to watch late night) have been having a field day with jokes about him – for any of u who watch Netflix Orange is the new black series is on – I have t looked at it yet – cuz they release the whole season at once so if I start watching I will be stuck for hours inside – not a good thing lol- Jackie and MJ (which is what we call ur Matt) Melissa’s baby Myles is almost a month old 😉 he’s a big boy and generally very good – I wonder if I can send u a photo on this site? Peace and happiness to all 👍🏻

    • We have been trolling most days, including now. Dana is our fisherman and switched us to the pink hula-skirt lure today. Looked delicious to me, though we have yet to get a strike. We did, oddly, pass a basketball-sized octopus yesterday. Matt and Jackie will travel to Barcelona, Tuscany and Florence after we arrive. Bill and some friends will take the boat to Palma, where it will rest before being shipped to the Caribbean (on a big ship meant to carry little ships) in November, after hurricane season. Pity we cannot continue on to the Greek Isles, maybe next time. The rest of us will fly home straight away, because we miss you guys.

      • Truth be told-if work was an option, then I suspect Cam and Liz would take you up on that Greek Isles idea. It is what she asked for graduation gift and I’ve yet to pay up! We will get there one day!

  4. Ahhhh, The calm seas we all have prayed for. Good to see all the happy smiling faces. I’ll keep praying for Fair Winds and Following Seas. Again how many nautical miles for your trip???

    • Total trip is 3100 nautical miles, 2000 nm to Azores then 1100 nm to Sotogrande. We are now 600 nm from Horta. This morning I said that we just had one Bermuda trip to go before we get to Horta.

  5. What fantastic pictures. You all look like you’re having the time of your life. I knew Jackie would be a star but had no idea she could do so much baking on the open sea. I love the selfies from the bow. It looks like quite an atheletic move . Sorry about the spelling. half way now looks like you are right on schedual .Keep up the good work . Now must go back to my boring land life. Love you all.

  6. The bow selfies were cool but a bit scary looking! My boss, a woman, was a nurse commander in the navy. I am sharing your photos and blog with her!

  7. Hooray for the good conditions under full sail! (though bow selfies are much easier while motoring eh?) Nice pics Cam! – great group shot 😉

Impressed that you still project Sunday arrival with the motoring. nice work all.Suzette hoped that we would join you in Horta but tickest were no to be had, at any price 😦
Sounds like, thanks to Jackie, you are all well cared for – quite the four-star cruise!
    Any more wildlife sightings?
    Keep well.

  9. I signed up to receive your journal by email, so I won’t miss one! Loving every word and picture! You are making some wonderful memories! Riley just happens to be in Spain right now! With a Baylor group getting his Spanish requirements checked off!. He is living in Madrid, but travels every weekend. By the end of 5 weeks, he will have practically covered the country and better be speaking Espanol! He comes home July 1. He seems to be having a wonderful time, just like at home, calls when he needs money. Terry and I are right here in Waco with the motorcycle gangs!!
Be safe, have fun…in that order, call if you need money! Haha
